Lecornu mark 2 – a government at war with working people

Statement by the French Anticapitalists (NPA) following the failure of the no confidence motion and the formation of a new pro-Macron government led by Lecornu.

Lecornu 2 is a pure Macronist government, made up of technocrats, former Macron advisors, and also those under criminal investigation: Rachida Dati from the Culture Ministry soon to be tried for corruption and influence peddling; Vincent Jeanbrun, Minister of Housing, accused of favoritism in the allocation of housing to relatives.

There are further investigations into Nunez, responsible along with Castaner for the numerous injuries and blindings during the Yellow Vests protest movement; Geffray, former number two to Blanquer, architect of several reforms that destroyed the national education system; and Stéphanie Rist, deputy and lobbyist for the alcohol industry in the Assembly, promoted to Minister of Health!

The return of colonial France

imperialist France is In difficulty in West Africa, from where it has been successively expelled from Mali, Burkina Faso, and Niger. But it is seeking to consolidate its positions in the Pacific region. This is the main reason for the urgency of imposing an agreement that crushes the rights of the Kanak people and for the proposal, announced by Lecornu, to include the Bougival agreements in the Constitution (they exclude an option of independence for Kanaky-Tr).

A hard budget against the people

The finance and social security financing bills were presented to the Council of Ministers on Tuesday.

Behind the announcement of the suspension of the pension reform lies a freeze on pensions and social benefits, a doubling of medical contributions and a very small increase in the hospital budget, which is insufficient to meet needs.

For bosses and the wealthiest, on the other hand, the “burden” is cosmetic: there is no question of introducing the “Zucman tax” (=Wealth Tax) or reducing aid to businesses. Like its predecessors, this government wants to make the majority of the population pay for the crisis, while preserving the interests of the wealthy.

The far right lying in wait

The political crisis is benefiting the RN, (Rassemblement National – Le Pen) which is reaping the rewards of the discontent caused by the accelerated decay of the institutions of the Fifth Republic.

By distancing himself from Macron, Retailleau from the traditonal right is clearly choosing the “union of the right,” that is, an agreement with the RN.

The Republicans have even expelled the few ministers who have been reappointed to the Lecornu 2 government. The danger of an extreme right-wing majority in the event of early legislative elections is becoming clearer.

Let’s continue the struggle in the streets and through strikes!

Taking to the streets again, through demonstrations and strikes, is the only way to build a relationship of fores capable of imposing our demands on a totally undemocratic government.

We must continue the momentum of the mobilizations of September 10 and 18 and October 2, by building assemblies or other forms of self-organization in our cities and neighborhoods, by discussing with our colleagues at work to convince them of the need to act all together, and to push for the setting of strike and mobilization dates.

All left-wing organizations, whether trade unions, social or political, must agree on a programme based on that of the New Popular Front and the demands of the inter-union group.

To block the far right and allow our social camp to regain the upper hand, we must defend, in a united and determined manner, urgent social, democratic, and ecological measures.

A major day of action called by the entire social and political left would be a stepping stone for organizing strikes and channeling our anger at this government and Macron.
